Substack Reader for Mac
A free, native macOS app for reading your Substack newsletters — without the browser.
Read Substack on your Mac
Verso is a dedicated desktop Substack reader for macOS. Sign in with your Substack account, and every newsletter you subscribe to — free and paid — appears in a single, chronological reading queue. No browser tabs, no email digging, no algorithm deciding what you see first.
If you've been looking for a way to read Substack on Mac outside of your inbox or a web browser, Verso is built exactly for that.
A native macOS Substack app
Verso is a native Mac app built with Swift and SwiftUI. It's not an Electron wrapper or a web view — it's a proper macOS citizen with a three-pane layout, system font rendering, and full keyboard navigation.
- Keyboard shortcuts — j/k to move between articles, o to open, s to star, r to mark read.
- Three-pane reader — subscriptions, article list, and reading pane side by side.
- Light and dark mode — follows your macOS appearance setting.
- Background sync — new articles arrive every couple of hours without manual refreshing.
No tracking, no account, no analytics
Verso has no Verso account, no analytics SDK, no crash reporter, and no telemetry. Your subscriptions, articles, read state, and starred items are stored in a local database on your Mac — nothing is sent to a Verso server because there isn't one.
Your Substack credentials go directly to Substack. Verso doesn't see or store your password.
Free beta — download now
Verso is free and currently in beta. It requires macOS 15 (Sequoia) or later. Sign up below and your download starts immediately.
